Details: This is a telephone operator's plug - patented 9/24/1912.
The operator used this when she needed to be included in a call.
I researched the patent date to confirm.

Details: Found at a depth of 2 inches. A "smenny" is a penny that has been placed on railroad tracks and smashed by the weight of a train passing over it.

Hunka - Hunka Sumpin' 1...

Details: This was found at a depth of 3 inches and was wrapped with duct tape.
It registered at 83 VDI before and after digging.

A Hunka - Hunka Sumpin' 2...
This interesting nugget was found along a river bank in northern Blackford County on October 3, 2010 (MFP). It was buried only 3 inches in the sand and silt.
Imagine my excitement when my VDI hit and stuck at 93.
It's a solid, continuous piece of metal. It measures about 3 inches at the longest point and has some weight to it.
Of course I thought a silver nugget would be a very nice way to cap off the day, but I'm not so sure that it isn't a funky piece of melted aluminum pretending to be a chunk of silver.
